If you qualify for Medicaid Long Term Care and require home care, personal care, or skilled nursing services, under New York State’s Consumer-Directed Personal Assistance Services (CDPAS) – you can self-direct your caretakers. The program includes senior care and child care. Spouse and parent (if child is under 21) are the only exclusions for the caregiver/consumer relationship.
New York State’s Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Services (CDPAS) empowers Medicaid-eligible patients to hire, monitor, and terminate their own home caregivers. Instead of an outside vendor or agency managing their care, CDPAP gives elderly, disabled, or ill individuals independence and control. Personal Assistants must be over the age of 18*.
*Excludes assigned representative. Other restrictions may apply.
Even if you’re eligible for professional homecare under Medicaid, you might not like bringing someone you’ve never met into your home. CDPAS helps you turn homecare into a joy by allowing you to hire trusted loved ones to provide you with compassionate care. Your chosen assistants can be siblings, children, friends, relatives, previously hired aides, or trusted neighbors.
